True NeedlesRecycled PE
Since 2025, our trees with True Needle® tips are made from a minimum of 30% post-consumer, GRS-certified recycled polyethylene (PE) sourced from tear-away water bottle caps. By 2027, we aim to move to 50% recycled content.
True NeedlesPlant-Based PE
Our sugarcane-based polyethylene has C-14 certification for 95% bio-based carbon content. We’ll increasingly use this plant-based plastic for select trees with True Needle® technology.
Classic NeedlesProprietary PET
Since 2026, our trees with Classic Needles are made from 100% proprietary polyethylene terephthalate (PET) for PVC-free realism with our same signature quality. We are exploring recycled PET content for future trees.
Structural Components Tree Stand & Frame
From the trunk and branches to the hinges and stand, steel gives our trees structure and strength. In 2027, we plan to start the transition to a minimum of 50% RCS or GRS Certified recycled steel while maintaining our signature quality and realism.

Tree Accessories
WiringCopper
We use durable copper electrical wire, and our pre-lit trees are hand-strung to create our trademark Easy Plug® technology, with wiring connected through the trunk for tangle-free setup and storage.
CoatingPVC
Our light strings are currently encased in Polyvinyl chloride (PVC) coatings for fire retardancy. We are exploring a transition to thermoplastic elastomer (TPE) for future light strings.
BulbsGlass
We use commercial-grade LED lights and glass casings for the majority of our light strings. Our patented technology ensures that lights remain lit even if one bulb is broken or loose.
Recycle Ready Tree Packaging
We ship our trees in heavy-duty, recycle-ready cardboard boxes made with a minimum of 50% recycled content, and we're pursuing FSC®certification for our packaging in 2027.

Each Balsam Hill tree includes a free storage bag constructed from polyethylene. These bags help our customers extend the life of their tree through proper storage. We are exploring recycled polyethylene for future storage bags.

Balsam Hill tree stands come packaged in a polyester fabric bag, designed for easy storage. We are exploring a transition to recycled polyester in future years.
Small Parts BoxPolypropylene
Our trees come with a small parts box that includes replacement bulbs to help customers extend the life of their tree. We are exploring a transition to ocean-bound recycled polypropylene.

Made with 30% recycled polyethylene True Needles®, this was the first artificial tree to earn the Good Housekeeping Institute's Green Seal, highlighting its lower carbon footprint.
95% Plant-Based PE Needles
This slim, sparse tree’s sugarcane-based polyethylene True Needle® tips are made with 95% bio-based carbon content tested to meet C-14 standards.
