WEEE FAQ PAGE2>
What is the WEEE Directive?
The EU Directive on Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) (Directive 2012/19/EU) aims to prevent and reduce the waste going to landfill by promoting its re-use, recycling and disposal in an environmentally responsible manner. It requires countries to establish separate collection and environmentally friendly processing of these items.
What does crossed-out wheeled bin symbol mean?
To remind you that old EEE can be recycled, it is now marked with the crossed-out wheeled bin symbol seen below.
Please do not dispose any product with the crossed-out wheeled bin symbol in normal domestic waste as these can be harmful to human health and the environment. If your Balsam Hill product has batteries, lights, and/or an electrical cord, it should be treated as EEE when you eventually dispose of it. Use designated collection points or recycling facilities when disposing of the EEE or batteries to enable their safe recovery and recycling. Please contact your local authority for further details of your nearest designated collection point.
How does Balsam Hill support the WEEE Directive?
Balsam Hill is committed to the protection of the environment and supports the requirements of the WEEE Directive. We are registered as a producer of WEEE in the countries where we are required to register, and we are also a member of approved compliance schemes, called “Distributor Take Back Schemes”. Our national registration numbers (where applicable) and the Distributor Take Back Schemes of which we are a member are listed in the table below. By joining a Distributor Take Back Scheme, we help finance the environmentally sound management of WEEE and batteries (i.e., recycling, treatment, etc.). The Distributor Take Back Schemes also organize the collection, recovery, and recycling of WEEE and batteries on behalf of their respective members. You can also arrange for the pick-up of WEEE where a like-for-like EEE has been purchased and delivered, however, the timing of the collection of WEEE may differ from that of the delivery of the new machine.
