Storage Tips
Here are some best practices to observe as you prepare to take down your Christmas tree:
- Remove all décor and unplug the lights before disassembling your tree.
- Allot sufficient time for this activity. For pre-lit trees, take extra care when compressing the branches so you can minimise the risk of bulbs getting damaged.
- You can use the gloves that your Balsam Hill tree when compressing the foliage.
- Consider moving your bare tree closer to your storage area before disassembly and compressing the tree sections. This reduces heavy lifting later.
- Store your tree in a cool, dry location to prevent it from acquiring a musty odour while in storage. Include a packet of baking soda as a natural deodoriser.

Disassembling Your Tree
- Detach the lights – For non-Easy Plug™ trees, detach the light connections between the sections. If your tree is not pre-lit, unstring the lights and store them separately.
- Compress the branches – Use both hands to compress the foliage on each branch before detaching the section. Then, flip the tree section over and squeeze the branches together.
- Secure with ribbon —To make handling easier, tie a ribbon or cord around the section to secure the branches.
Storing Tree Sections
- Prepare the storage bag(s) – Unzip and open the storage bags that came with your tree.
- Store the sections – Position the sections in the bag(s) as if they were a pair of shoes in a box, with the pole in the center. For larger trees, place the odd-numbered sections in one bag, and the even-numbered in the other.
- Seal the bag – Zip up the bag to keep out dust and insects.
